Dust Field

Dust Lands

One of many names for the great grey rolling plains of dust that cover the center of the continent. Outsiders call the folk who live there "dust landers" or "dust fielders" pretty much interchangably, then wonder why they get upset. In fact, there's a clear distinction between the two terms, freighted with connotations: "dust landers" are wanderers or nomads, while "dust fielders" live in settled communities. 'Fielders see 'Landers as drifting trash whose herds wreck the precarious ecologies of their commons, threatening the settled folk with starvation, while 'Landers see 'Fielders as stingy thieves who squat over valuable resources and deny them to others.
